Eating to stay healthy

We focus on how nutrition affects your health and how to eat well to stay healthy. It is important to understand that taste and appetite changes with age. Many people develop nutritional deficiencies because their nutrition becomes less varied and portions too small.

  • Food we eat plays an important role in our health and how we age. It can be the difference between staying healthy and developing chronic health conditions.

  • Most of your plate should be composed of vegetables with ¼ or less of protein and the rest of the plate can have starchy vegetables, potatoes or rice

  • Calcium is important to maintain strong bones: good sources include dairy products, seafood and leafy greens.

  • Variety is the key; it is important to diversify our choices and make the plate as colourful as possible.
